Reflection:
I completely agree with Mrs. Robinson that the education system is killing creativity in children. However, after teacher for years in public school and now at a private school, I've witnessed first-hand how the pressure of standardized testing squanders creativity in the classroom. The school I currently teach at does not emphasize test scores so students have a lot more time to create intellectual pieces in all subjects. I'm amazed at the creativity my 3rd grade students have. Mr. Robinson is right in saying that we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Unfortunately the public school system is often the reason why creativity leaves our youth. I'm saddened by the amount of structure and inflexibility that encompasses our nation's schools.

Mr. Robinson's point about the hierarchy of the educational structure was interesting. I wonder if society as a whole would be better if we focused more on the Arts and Humanities like we do with STEM subjects. Perhaps people would understand and interpret relationships better. "Living in your head" is often why our society today is so self absorbed. If only teachers were allowed to focus more on self-expression rather than algebraic expressions.
